30 Oct 2006 - Thai-Burma Railway Centre in Kanchanaburi
A recent donation by a member of the 2/18th Battalion AIF Association has assisted in the completion of a model bridge and railway car in the Thai-Burma Railway Centre in Kanchanaburi. Thanks to Rod Beattie at the Centre for his efforts and the photos. A vote of thanks from Rod is quoted below as well as the text of the plaque included in one of the photos.
"Thank you ever so much for this
[donation] and please pass on my thanks to the boys you show the photographs to.
The message for them is that they and all the others will not be forgotten.
Text of the plaque (in photo above).
"The model bridge you are looking at has been built in the memory of the 2/18th Battalion, Australian Imperial Force who, along with 12,000 other Australians where transported to Thailand and Burma to work on the Thailand-Burma Railway.
Of the battalion, 36 men died during the construction and another 34 died in the following months."
